Deccan Gymkhana registered a 6-wicket win over Poona Club to retain the 52nd edition of the prestigious Mandke Shield at the PYC Hindu Gymkhana.
Buoyed by handy contributions from Ashish Suryavanshi (53),Ajinkya Naik (41) and Pradeep Chaudhari (49),Poona Club scored 208/9 after winning the toss. For Deccan Gymkhana,Kiran Adhav snapped 3 wickets for 51 runs.
In reply,Deccan Gymkhana got of to a disastrous start and were reeling at 135 for 6 at the end of the first days play.
On the second day,Deccan Gymkhana managed to take slender 5-run lead as their innings folded up for 213.
In the second innings,Poona Club scored 207/7,setting Deccan a target of 202 runs in 20 overs. Rahul Tripathi led the chase for Deccan scoring a blistering 107 of just 46 balls to take his team home.
Deccan Gymkhana received Rs 15,000 and the Mandke Shield,while runners-up Poona Club got Rs 10,000 and a shield. Amey Shrikhande who scored 278 runs in the tournament was adjudged the best batsman.
Ajay Chavan who picked up 11 wickets was named the best bowler,while Ajinkya Naik of Poona Club was adjudged the best all-rounder,scoring 311 runs and claiming two wickets.
