In a crackdown on cricket betting in the city,the anti-terrorist cell and the crime branch have arrested seven persons

In a crackdown on cricket betting in the city,the anti-terrorist cell and the crime branch have arrested seven persons and also have seized cash,laptops,televisions and cell phones in two separate raids at Pimpri and Kondhwa.

On a tip-off,police raided five places in Pimpri and arrested five persons allegedly involved in betting for the match between India and South Africa.

They have been identified as – Paras Jain (64) of Guruwar Peth,Mukesh Agarwal (34) of Dapodi,Sanjay Mittal (39) of Chinchwad,Ram Bajaj (37) of Pimpri and Gopi Isarani (42) of Pimpri. Police have recovered Rs 71,000,a TV,two lap tops and seven cell phones.

Sunil Tambe of the anti-terrorist cell said,“This was a joint operation. The raids started at 3:30 pm and ended around 10.30 pm.”

In Kondhwa,raids were carried out at two places and two persons Sunil Makhija (46) of Lullanagar and Subhash Tekwani (47) of Bhavani Pethwere arrested. Police have recovered cash,TV sets,cell phones and laptops totalling worth Rs 1.63 lakh.
