Additional sessions judge N P Dhote sentenced Sharad Devram Shelke (26) and Yogesh Madhav Andhale (22),both residents of Shirur,to life imprisonment and fined them Rs 1,000 each for murdering Eknath Dagdu Kamble (25),a resident of Sawantwadi in Shirur taluka.

Two get life term for 2010 murder

Additional sessions judge N P Dhote sentenced Sharad Devram Shelke (26) and Yogesh Madhav Andhale (22),both residents of Shirur,to life imprisonment and fined them Rs 1,000 each for murdering Eknath Dagdu Kamble (25),a resident of Sawantwadi in Shirur taluka. The court also sentenced Shelke and Andhale to additional 10-year and five-year rigorous imprisonment with fine of Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 respectively. Shelke was also sentenced to seven years rigorous imprisonment for criminal intimidation. All the three sentences will run concurrently. The accused had some previous enmity with Kamble,who was working with a private company in Lonikand. The court,however,acquitted five suspects Ashwini alias Seema Sharad Shelke,Popat Thakaji Gangad,Sunita Ramchandra Andhale,Sachin Subhash Udhav and Nitin Suresh Gangad owing to lack of evidence. On December 11,2010,Kamble had boarded a private bus after office when the three accused intercepted the bus. One of the accused boarded the bus and asked Kamble to alight as Shelke had come to meet him. As Kamble got down from the bus,the two accused kidnapped him and took him to a field in Lonikand where they assaulted him with sharp weapons over previous enmity. Although Kamble had managed to escape,he succumbed to injuries the next day.

PBA organises lecture series

The Pune Bar Association (PBA) organised a lecture series to guide lawyers who will be appearing for the judicial service examination on Sunday. The five-day lecture series,which began on September 9,saw several senior lawyers speaking on specialised topics. Member of Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa advocate Ahmedkhan Pathan delivered lectures on Transfer of Property Act,Indian Contract Act and Civil Procedure Code while principal of Bharati Vidyapeeth New Law College Mukund Sarda spoke on constitutional law. Additional sessions judge V K Shewale spoke on Criminal Procedure Code,additional sessions judge S D Darne on specific Relief Act,additional sessions judge Vinay Joshi on Indian Penal Code and civil judge Umeshchandra More and advocate Sudhakar Avhad on Indian Evidence Act.

Maha Lokadalat today

The Pune District Legal Services Authority (PDLSA) will organise a Maha Lokadalat (people’s court) on the Shivajinagar district court premises between 11 am and 5 pm on Sunday. The Lokadalat will focus on pending civil cases. The Lokadalat is being organised simultaneously all over the state by the respective district legal services authorities with an aim to reduce pendency by counseling litigants to settle matters amicably. Three such Lokadalats held earlier in the state claimed success with lakhs of pending cases settled amicably between the contesting parties.
