AISSMS COE hold annual technical event
The AISSMS College of Engineering held its annual technical event,Engineering Today on March 17 and 18 The event,sponsored by 44 industries and professional bodies,showcased nationwide talent in different areas of engineering. Anjali Jha who topped the Pune University in the 2009 Examination Venikar Prasad,BE Electrical,Pranav Patil,BE Mechinical Sandwich,Ravi Kapoor,BE Production Sandwich were all honored with the Gold Medal in their respective fields. Research projects were also showcased,the most popular one being “Utilization of Industrial Waste as Fertiliser”,which is now being developed by the college. The prize distribution ceremony was presided over by Shrimant Yuvraj Sambhajiraje Chhatrapati of Kolhapur,Vice President,AISSMS,Arvind Nene COO,Mahindra Hinoday Ltd and Narayan Reddy,Director,Whirlpool India Ltd were the guests of honour for the function. Captain Shivaji Mahadkar,Hon. Secretary and J D Bapat,Principal addressed the gathering. Dilip Umberkar Chairman Governing council,and Rajabhau Patil,member AISSMS were present.

Camp at SMC
Swathanthra Malayalam Computing (SMC) is holding a free of charge “Localisation” Camp,which will center on introducing various localisation tools,processes and communities and serve as a forum for developers to mingle. Swathanthra Malayalam Computing is a group of developers working for Malayalam software support; “Uncode” which is the free software initiative of “Lokayat”,an activist group in Pune and CoFSUG (College of Engineering,Pune’s Free Software Users Group) will be organising the free camp at the office of “Red Hat”,in the Magarpatta IT Park. This event is open for all to participate in.

International conference held at Poona College
The Poona College on March 19 inaugurated an international conference on the subject of ‘Interest free Banking as a Means of Inclusive Finance in India’. Mahmoodur Rahman,Chairman,Planning Commission,Jammu and Kashmir,inaugurated the conference. Dr. MY Khan,former advisor of SEBI,was present as the guest of honour. The conference was held till 20th March 2010,in the seminar hall of Poona College. Dr. A Shaikh,Principal and Dr. Shakeel Ahmed,Conference coordinator stated,“Interest free banking is a fundamental concept derived from Islamic form of banking”. Various economists,researchers and professors attended the conference.

Shastri Group celebrates 10th Annual Day
The Shastri Group of Institutes,an initiative of Anshul Sharma,celebrated their tenth Annual Day on March 13,2010 at the Daulat Lawns,in Pirangut. The event,which began with lighting of the traditional lamp,was followed by a keynote speech by Anshul Sharma,Founder Chairman of the Shastri Group of Institutes. During the inauguration of the annual gathering,Ramash Wanjale,MLA from Khadakwasla constituency,explained the present political situation in Maharashtra and advised students to absorb human values. Those dignitaries present for the event included Chief Guest for Annual Gathering,Ramesh Wanjale,MLA – Maharashtra State,Chief Guest for Annual Day,Prof. LM Patnaik,Vice Chancellor of Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT),Jahangir Damania,M D of Heligo Charters Pvt. Ltd. and Kajari Mitra,Manager of The British Library.
