Flames’s Rediscover India project aimed at letting the students interact and explore India had seven teams set out to understand their country and returned with valuable insights. Making presentations on their chosen themes,the team — Rediscover Punjab won the competition taking home a trophy and a budget for an International project. Team leader,Shalin Kothicha,team Rediscover Punjab,says,”We researched on a lot of issues engulfing our country. But the state of Punjab struck us because though it is projected as being a very prosperous state,it has its own share of problems as well.” These students ventured out to understand Punjab through five significant aspects that represent it today; namely the Green Revolution,Sikhism,the Army,partition and food. The panel of judges involved eminent personalities like B V Doshi – Architect,Manjiri Khandekar – Editor of Hertiage India,Subrata Bhowmick,graphic designer,Indira Parikh,Ex Dean IIM-A and President of FLAME and P M Shingi,Dean FSB.

Learning Lessons
Maharashtra Cosmopolitan Education Society organised a convocation ceremony of Ulemas (Madarasa Teachers) on the occasion of Maharashtra Day to felicitate them for the completion of the Ulema Teachers Training Certificate Course. Maulana Mufti Mohammad Ismail Quasmi (MLA,Malegaon) was present as the chief guest,while P A Inamdar presided over the function. The training included English speaking,education methodology,child psychology,science,physical training and so on. The training program will help to bring better quality education to more than 32 lakh children studying in madarassas today. Maharashtra Cosmopolitan Education Society has also started a teachers training course for Aalima (Women Teachers in Madarassas).

Scholarship for girls
Lila Poonawalla Foundation is availing scholarships in post-graduation studies for the academic year 2010-11,in India and overseas for girls in Pune District. The scholarship will be provided to about 65 girls this year. It is a merit cum need-based scholarship; and the amount given depends on the academic performance and the financial needs of the student. Forms are available everyday except Sunday until May 31 at Akshay Centre,Office No. 8,Thergaon,Chinchwad.

Labour talk
A seminar on Labourers will be held at the Sinhagad Management School today for the benefit of the labor community. An initiative of the Government of Maharashtra for the celebrations of Kamgar Din (Labour Day),it will have experts on labour law who will be the faculty for this seminar,explaining and talking on different labour laws. The seminar will begin with a welcome note by S G Phadtare,Deputy Director,Industrial Safety & Health and will include talks on topics like- Labour Laws,Legal service authority Act,Prohibition of sexual harassment at work place and protection of rights of women workers,Domestic violence Act and so on The registration for the event starts at the venue at 10.30 a.m.
