Cognizant woos a record 346 CoEP students with job offers

Anuraag Bora,a final year student,said,”The best thing about the placements this year was that the usual criteria of grades above 5.5-6.0 Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) and no backlogs in any semester were relaxed for students who proved their mettle at the interviews. Other companies would not even let students with lower grades or backlogs reach the interviews,without considering the fact that due to any number of reasons,one’s performance in a particular semester could have fallen and does not reflect the potential of the student.”

Among the undergraduates,31 were selected from computer science 33 from IT,38 from electronic and telecom,26 from electrical,22 from instrumentation,19 from mechanical,25 from metallurgy,27 from production and 36 from civil engineering. From the M.Tech batch,nine were selected from the biomedical branch. Four from automotive,12 from wired and wireless communication,three from thermal,10 from process instrumentation,five from manufacturing and automation,one from metallurgy (process),two from metallurgy (physical),five from VLSI and embedded,seven from mechatronics,one from mechanical,seven from computer,10 from digital system,one from power,three from electrical control systems eight from signal processing branches were selected.

“Cognizant’s 346 job offers made at CoEP are the highest any company across industries has made in our college and probably the highest in Maharashtra. The decision to call Cognizant on the first day was taken by students themselves,keeping in mind the fact that they have established themselves as markets leaders this year,” said Sandeep Meshram,Training and Placement Cell,CoEP.

He added that after 2007-08 this is the first year Cognizant was called for the first day of placements and after NASSCOM lifting conditions of placements beginning only in January keeping in mind industry demands. This year,placements for 2012 have been done in September.

An official spokesperson from Cognizant,said,”Globally we have already made 14,000 recruitments in the first six months of the year. Most of these 346 students selected from CoEP are likely to be placed in Pune,but depending upon our requirements,they may be sent to any of our nine locations in India.”
