The programme, which saw the presence of the society’s founder chairman Kiran Thakur, was interrupted by calls from the audience about the inclusion of Belgaum and Niphani into Maharashtra. The tricky issue of inclusion of Belgaum in Maharashtra has been a long standing demand of the Marathi-speaking population of the area. Thakur in his speech urged the state government to take steps to declare the area as an union territory before the Supreme Court finalises on the issue.
