The admission process for Class XI finally started on Friday. Most of the city colleges saw thousands of students queuing up since morning for the forms. Of the 42,244 forms sold,19,218 were in science category,9,561 were in Commerce (English),6,794 in Commerce (Marathi),463 in Arts (English) and 1,951 in Arts (Marathi).

Maximum crowd was seen at colleges like Fergusson College and Sadhana College,Hadapsar, that resulted in the centres running out of forms by afternoon. Visibly upset parents had heated arguments with college authorities. However, the problem was resolved in an hour after the colleges got extra forms from other centres.

Most the of the SSC students seemed happy regarding the decision on best-5. Ruchira Desai,a student of Vidya Bhavan School,Model Colony, who had come to Fergusson College for the form, however, said,“With the best-five,I scored 86 per cent, but for me the policy did not really make much of a difference because I was getting 85 per cent otherwise. However, there are a few of my friends whose aggregate score was 75 per cent but following the best-five policy, their percentage shot up to 81-82 per cent. So it has been helpful for most of us.”

However, the ICSE students did not have much to cheer regarding the policy.

“I don’t feel the decision has been fair for us and calculating the Group III subjects would have been of a lot of help. There should not have been this disparity between ICSE and SSC students. Based on best-five,my percentage reaches 89.55. The aggregate, however,is coming to 90.7 per cent. So,I will consider all the seven subjects,” said Apoorva Gaikwad, who was waiting to get a form at Marathwada Mitra Mandal’s College of Commerce.

The admission forms will be accepted at all the centres till July 19.
