Civic body to limit action, issue notice to Rosary

The PMC’s education board has found many discrepancies and lack of basic amenities in all five Rosary schools in the city and compiled a detailed report on them.

The PMC’s education board has found many discrepancies and lack of basic amenities in all five Rosary schools in the city and compiled a detailed report on them. However, keeping in mind the future of 13,000 students, who have been enrolled this academic session,it has decided to defer the proposal to derecognise the school. The civic body will serve a show cause notice on the school and give it two months to correct discrepancies.

PMC education officer Ramchandra Jadhav said,“We have found all allegations against the schools true, including lack of clean drinking water, toilets, playgrounds etc. Only the school’s Warje campus has a playground. They are not providing a bifurcation of the fee structure,as reported by the inspection team. But we have to keep in mind the future of such a large number of students. No school will accommodate them in the middle of the academic session. We will issue a showcause notice to the schools and give them two months, after which we will take stern action against them if discrepancies persist.”

An inspection report will be forwarded by the PMC education board to the state education department. Five teams, each comprising three senior officials of the education board, were sent to each of the five Roasry schools on Wednesday.

Deputy director of education for Pune region,Sunil Magar, said,“I have no role to play in this matter. The final decision to recognise or derecognise a school is with the PMC school board.”

Ashwin Kamat, senior administrator of Rosary schools, said,“In a written application to the education board,we have appealed to the civic body that we be given some time rather than the recognition being cancelled right away. We will take into account all the complaints and grievances of the parents and upgrade the facilities in all our campuses.”

Chairperson of PMC school board Sangeeta Tiwari said,“While the most appropriate thing to do now would be to derecognise these schools,we cannot take any hasty decisions as 13,000 students cannot be left stranded as no parent would want the child to continue in a derecognised school. So we will have to monitor their performance for some time.”
