The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is all set to launch a mobile store for selling the products made by women self-help groups.
The civic administration has sought sanction of Rs 25 lakh for the purchase of a vehicle that would act as a mobile store. There are around 8,600 self-help groups registered with the civic body. This is an initiative to ensure earning for the urban poor and encourage saving, said Dnyaneshwar Molak,head of Urban Community Development department of PMC. He said the self -help group has encouraged self-employment among the urban poor and it was necessary to provide them proper market to sell the products manufactured.
Education board to focus on e-learning
The PMC education board has decided to expand its e-learning initiative in civic schools as it has made a provision of Rs 7 crore in the proposed budget of the board for next financial year. The board has tabled the budget of Rs 279 crore for 2012-13 as against Rs 207 crore for the current year. Under criticism for poor infrastructure of sanitation,the board has also made Rs 5 crore provision for improvement of toilets in the schools.
Meanwhile,accepting the demand of citizens,the civic body election department has extended the deadline for filing suggestions and objections for newly constituted panel system for forthcoming civic polls. The earlier deadline was September 5 but now citizens can file their feedback by September 17.
Water supply to be hit today
Water supply will be disrupted in parts of the city on Wednesday to carry out urgent repair work at SNDT pumping station. The area to be affected include Paud road,Karve road,Dahanukar colony,Shastrinagar,Kothrud,Happy colony,Vadarwasti,Bharat colony,Janwadi,Gokhalenagar,Vadarwadi,Chaturshingi,Senapati Bapat road,Anand Yashoda society,Model colony,Fergusson college road,Shivajinagar,Bhosalenagar and Ashoknagar.
