CBI arrests PF staffer for graft
Pune: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI),anti-corruption bureau,Pune,arrested a social security assistant with the Employee Provident Fund (EPF) office for accepting a bribe of Rs 1,500 from an employee of a private company for clearing his file. The team led by Rajpal Singh,deputy superintendent of police with the CBI (ACB),arrested Vishal Kumar at Golibar Maidan near his office on Saturday. Sources said complainant Pravin Tambe had approached them after which they laid a trap and arrested Kumar while accepting the bribe. Tambe had switched job recently and was due to get his EPF benefits. Kumar had asked for a bribe of Rs 2,000 for clearing files. The amount was later brought down to Rs 1,500 after negotiations,ACB sources said.

17-yr-old falls off terrace,dies
PUNE: A 17-year-old girl,Divya Sanjay Shrivastav,died on Saturday evening after falling off a four-storey building on the Law College Road,the police said. Shrivastav,a class XII student in Kothrud,had appeared for two papers of the ongoing board exams. She had gone to study on the terrace of the building where she stayed. Sub Inspecor U K Yadav of the Deccan Gymkhana police station said,“We spoke to her father. He denied any exam stress and told us there were no family issues. He also told us she must have fallen while trying to relax on the railing.”

“As part of the investigation,we have taken her cellphone from which call details seem to have been deleted. We will probe further by trying to get call details.” Her father works for an MNC and her mother had been reportedly ill for the past few days.

Car runs over man on pavement
PUNE: A 60-year-old man,Ambadas Laxman Shinde,who was sleeping on the pavement,died after he was run over in the early hours of Sunday near Kamgar Putla by a Honda City driven by an allegedly drunk Anand Vilas Sharma alias Dighun (24). Police said medical reports reveal Sharma was drunk. Police said he lost control over the vehicle and ran over Shinde before hitting and damaging another Honda City parked a few metres away. Sharma was also injured.
