Around 500 journalists took out a procession to the district collector’s office on Sunday afternoon to condem the assault on Yogesh Kute, senior reporter and Sandeep Jagdale, reporter of Sakal,by a city builder. Both of them were allegedly thrashed by builder Anil Sevelekar on Saturday. Kute is also the president of the Pune Union of Working Journalists (PUWJ).

Angry journalists staged a dharna outside the collectorate for an hour demanding Sevelekar’s arrest. They gave a memorandum to district collector Chandrakant Dalvi demanding action against the builder. MLA’s and politicians from various parties also accompanied the journalists and assured them that they would take up the issue in the coming assembly session .

Sevelekar had objected to a news report regarding woes of residents staying in a housing complex he had built. He called Kute and Jagdale at his residence, forced Kute to write an apology and beat them up. The police have registered a case under section 307 (attempt to murder) and other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Satish Khandare has promised action against the builder.
