Rain unusual,admits IMD

Officials of the India Meteorology Department (IMD) admitted that this time the rains in the city in October were unusual. “It can happen owing to inter-annual variability,” said Medha Khole,director (weather forecasting) IMD,Pune. Generally,it does not rain that heavily in October in Pune. However,the city saw large convective activity during the month. In fact,the city recorded record rainfall of the century in this month. “This time the onset of monsoon was somewhat delayed. The withdrawal is also delayed and many low pressure systems,including a cyclone developed in the Bay of Bengal when the monsoon was in the withdrawal phase from most parts of the country,” said Khole.

ACB awareness drive

The state Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB),Pune,launched an awareness drive for citizens on Monday. As a part of the drive,the ACB will organise functions till November 1. The ACB along with other government and non-government organisations will carry out a drive involving poster campaigns,SMS alerts,lectures,discussions and public ralies for encouraging citizens to file complaints against corrupt government officers.
