Nambiar elected chairman of export promotion council
City-based business conglomerate,Poonawalla Groups Director-Group Exim,PC Nambiar has been elected the chairman of Export Promotion Council for Export Oriented Units and SEZs based in New Delhi having regional officers all over India. Set up by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry,the council represents all EOUs,SEZ developers and units set up pan-India. Of the 589 SEZs approved so far,389 are notified and 153 are operational. There are 3,400 units established in these SEZs. The total investment made is Rs 201,875 crore,which employees 8,44,916 people and exports as of March 31,2012 was Rs 3,64,478 crore. When all 589 SEZs become operational,the growth in investment,employment generation and exports would be phenomenal, said Nambiar. Nambiar also urged the Centre to announce the positive policy initiatives suggested by the Panda committee for revamping the export oriented units,which have played a vital role in rural employment and exports since 1980s.
Sikh Sangat to protest against movie trailer today
The Pune Sikh Sangat will organise a dharna against the movie,Son of Sardar,on Sunday at Gurdwara Guru Nanak Darbar in Camp. The community has been hurt and offended by the contents of the movie trailer,said a member Rajwant Singh. The trailer,around two-and-a-half minutes long,has lines such as Jo Sardar na hote to joke kispe bante kaun lata sukhe chere par hasi. Around 600 sikhs will gather at the Gurdwara to protest against the trailer. We want the trailer to be removed from the internet and similar objectionable contect from the movie, said Singh.
