Vikas Matkari is BJP city unit president

The BJP has appointed Vikas Matkari as the president of its city unit. The post had been lying vacant for over nine months. BJP legislator Girish Bapat had tendered his resignation as city unit chief in protest of the state BJP’s decision to withdraw party candidate from the election to state Legislative Council without his consultation. The city unit was also without an executive committee for long. Matkari is a corporaor of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). He had contested the state Assembly elections two years ago but was defeated by Congress leader Vinayak Nimhan. He has also been the leader of opposition in the PMC.
