Khadakwasla bypoll on October 13
The byelection to Khadakwasla Assembly constituency,which fell vacant after the death of MNS MLA Ramesh Wanjale,will be held on October 13. The counting and declaration of results will on October 17. The model code of conduct has been implemented for the entire district. The election commission announced that September 26 would be the last day for receiving nominations and the scrutiny would be held on September 27. The last day for withdrawal of nominations is September 29.
67 cases come up for hearing
The district collector addressed 67 cases at the Lokshahi din hearing on Tuesday. Zilla parishad chief executive Anil Kawade and additional collector Ganesh Patil,besides police officers,also attended the hearing. There were nearly 23 cases related to the revenue department while seven were pertaining to land acquisition issues.There were eight cases regarding the city police and another eight regarding the rural police.
Wet spell in city,Met forecasts more
The city witnessed a wet spell on Tuesday,recording 5.8 mm rainfall. The Met department has forecast more wet spells on Wednesday,with the monsoon trough shifting southwards. Around 32,000 cusecs of water was released from Khadakwasla dam on Tuesday, 7500 cusecs from Pavana dam and 10,000 cusecs from Mushi dam.
One held for house break-in
The crime branch has arrested one Aslam Salim Shaikh,22,from Bhavani Peth in connection with a house break-in case at Mahatma Phule Peth and recovered stolen goods worth Rs 2.73 lakh from him. Police said Shaikh,of Mithanagar,Kondhwa,had broken into a flat of Jayesh Patel in Mahatma Phule Peth on September 2 and stolen goods worth Rs 2.10 lakh. The arrest was made a team \led by inspector Sunil Deshmukh. Constable Santosh Kshirsagar got a tip-off about Shaikh during our investigation,following which we arrested him, Deshmukh said. Shaikh,who was released from prison on August 30,has at least 10 cases of house break-ins against him.
