Children’s Day round-up

On Children's Day,a picture exhibition was held outside Sambhaji Park,J M Road. NGO 'Awakening Jagriti' organised the exhibition,apart from a rally of schoolchildren,on the theme of children's rights.

Rights Rally

On Children’s Day,a picture exhibition was held outside Sambhaji Park,J M Road. NGO ‘Awakening Jagriti’ organised the exhibition,apart from a rally of schoolchildren,on the theme of children’s rights. Drawings were displayed conveying the message of rights to children who work on the streets,beg at traffic signals and who don’t have access to education. The drawings were by students of Abnawe College of Arts. The exhibition began at 8.30 am with a rally by students of Veer Netaji Pasalkar School. They rally passed through Sambhaji Park,J M Road and Fergusson College Road. The exhibition went on till 5 pm.It was organised by the Child Rights section of the NGO in association with Intervida and Intervita.

Tribute to CHACHA

To pay tribute to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on his 122nd birth anniversary,a programme was organised by All India Sonia Gandhi Forum at the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Cricket Stadium here. The statue of Nehru was garlanded by Sanjay Balgude,secretary,Maharashtra Congress committee,and Sanmeet Singh Chaudhary,President,All India Sonia Gandhi Forum. Sweets and biscuits were distributed to children and cricketers in the stadium after the programme.

They Have Right,Too

To spread awareness about education amongst the women and their children in the red light area of Budhwar Peth,Kaya Kalp,a city-based NGO,organised a programme on Children’s Day. “The aim was to unite these women and to show affection towards their children. We want to provide them with the facilities which normal children get during their growing-up years,” said Seema Waghmode,member of Kaya Kalp.

Clothes and sweets were given to the children by Gurukrupa Women Self-Help Group and Swarupwardhini Group.

Radio Kids

Enthusiastic children made a beeline for Phoenix Marketcity on Sunday to showcase their RJing skills. The Radio City Baccha Party event,organised as a pre-Children’s Day party,was hosted by RJs Apoorva and Shonali.

They egged the 25 young,aspiring RJs on and made them do a jig on popular Bollywood numbers. It was a fun evening,both for the participants as well as shoppers who paused to cheer the kids on.

CRY forum

CRY (Child Rights and You) hosted ‘Bal Sawaal Bal Dhamaal’,an open forum for underpriviledged children from various parts of the state at Patrakar Bhavan. These children were from different Balgats. They presented stories of trials and triumphs and how they ensured change in their own lives and in the communities they live in,by demanding their rights to live,learn,grow and play. They also discussed their roles as agents of change against issues of discrimination,class and gender.

MCES Gift

The MCES English Medium Primary School organised a cultural programme depicting the life and works of the leader. The students were also given gifts by the school.
