Rare surgery conducted
A team of gynaecologists and surgeons at Sahyadri Hospital, consisting of Dr Anuja Shinde,Dr Neelkanth Belvi,Dr Prithi Rogers,Dr Deepali Adhau and Dr Yashwant Mane, recently conducted a rare surgery on a patient who carried a huge fibroid throughout her pregnancy. The fibroid was diagnosed for the first time when the patient was pregnant. As the pregnancy grew the fibroid was also seen to be growing. It was seen that the huge pedunculated fibroid was separate from the uterus and had grown in between the two leaves of the broad ligament on the left side. The round ligament was displaced laterally and upwards on the left side and the fibroid was extending lower down behind the uterus and the lower uterine segment. Running sutures were at first taken at the junction between the uterus and the fibroid. The baby was delivered through a lower segment incision and the incision closed as usual Haemostasis was ensured.
