Film Legion

The Department of Communication Studies (DCS),Pune University,hosted the Lights,Camera,and Action: DCS National Student Film Festival. The festival had amateur short films from all over the country judged by director Kiran Yadnyopavit,film critic Raj Kazi and the Zee TV promotion head Shubo Sengupta. The event was on at Namdev Auditorium on the university campus. It was inaugurated on March 25 by Vibhavari Deshpande and Veena Jamkar.

Empower 2013 Hosted

AIESEC recently held the Empower 2013 event. It was centred around giving students a holistic experience in terms of learning and value addition. Two hundred and fifty students from FLAMES,Indira and IMED (BVP) were a part of the event,which also highlighted the importance of youth being internationally oriented. Guest speakers during the event included Renuka Tandon,founder of ACE Impressions; Prathima Aghnihotri,a professor at BMCC; Meghna Chaudhry-Joshi,proprietor of Beauté Naturelle; and Rajendra Chaudhary,creator of BuzzOrbis.

Biodiversity Meet Organised

The Symbiosis Law School organised the Biodiversity Meet 2013 at the Vishwabhavan Auditorium on Saturday. The chief guest for the event was Dr Vandana Shiva,founder,Navdanya,and the Research Foundation for Science,Technology and Ecology. She spoke about how over the years,genetically modified crops have come to be associated with adverse effects on human health. It was at this juncture that the concept of genetically engineered crops arose,which had no pernicious effect on human health owing to the Recombinant DNA technology used to produce them. Also present on the occasion were Dr Chittranjan Bhatia,former Secretary,Department of Biotechnology,Government of India,and advocate Yeshwanth Shenoy,legal advisor to various regulatory authorities in the country.
