Most of us would think of wrestling as an ancient sport, but with the way the country has been winning accolades in this sport, its doesn’t come as a surprise that we are one of the best that the world has in this domain. So right from Mahabharata to the Common Wealth Games today, kushti has metamorphosed into a popular sport. People are naturally getting inquisitive about the game. When script writer Nitin Supekar decided to write about something out of the league,a story on kushti seemed like a good idea.
Titled Bhairu Pehlwan Ki Jay Ho ,and directed by Pravin Raja Karle, the film is about a young man’s journey of self discovery. The film promises to be full of all the masala and rollicking humour of a typical comic caper. Scriptwriter Supekar shares, kushti as a sport is not well-known amongst people in the cities. There are so many intricate details about it that are really interesting. During my research I saw how passionate people are about it. In fact,it’s a game where heavy betting is pretty common. But what does the story exactly revolve around? The lead, played by Siddharth Jadhav,is this young boy who has no aim in life. But gradually he realises that he needs to carry forward the rich legacy of his father and so gets onto a renewed path of determination. No one trusts him due to his notorious reputation. This is where the lead actress (Priyanka Yadav) comes in and helps him get on the path of victory. The backdrop of this simple story is woven around Kushti ,and everything about the sport is portrayed, right from the taleem to the fights, and all of this is enveloped in humour, shares the producer of the movie,Dr Anil Saxena.

Marking another first in the movie is actor Siddhart Jadhav, who gets the maiden chance to portray a character that is larger than life. I always try to do something different and this role promised me just that. I went through three months of intensive weight training and even on the sets there was a mini gym for me. Also,I took to doing a lot of research, sat for hours watching kushti matches. But now that the film is done,it feels good that all the efforts have paid off well. With a budget of around two crores, the film is set to release on October 15,in around 15 theaters in Pune and 30 to 40 screens around Maharashtra.
