Bombay Sappers team completes Solapur expedition

In continuation of the tradition of conducting adventure activities by the Bombay Sappers,21 young officers of the Bombay Sappers undertook an expedition to Solapur region from July 25 to 28.

In continuation of the tradition of conducting adventure activities by the Bombay Sappers,21 young officers of the Bombay Sappers undertook an expedition to Solapur region from July 25 to 28. The expedition was flagged off by Brig Sanjiv Talwar,Commandant,BEG and Centre,Kirkee. The information was given in a press release issued by the Press Information Bureau,defence wing.

The expedition was planned with the multifaceted aim of fostering the spirit of adventure,teamwork,leadership and planning skills,besides gaining first hand insight of the culture and traditions of the region. The team visited various places over a period of four days,covering a total distance of about 400 kms. The team met the local population,ex-servicemen and war widows making them aware of recruiting policies,ECHS facility and BSA membership,the release said.

In addition,information regarding various facilities available in the centre like Gurnam Boys Hostel,Boys Sports Company,among others,was given to ex-servicemen. The team also studied the terrain and updated the data on all natural and other resources in the area. The emphasis was to spread goodwill and foster a spirit of unity among the people of the region.

Bombay Sappers have always been at the forefront of adventure sports and have organised many expeditions in the past. This expedition gave a good opportunity to the young officers to know about the culture,history and heritage of the Solapur region of Maharashtra from where the Maratha troops of Bombay Sappers hail.
