Big screens,DJs,funky food to set mood for IPL final

Pune may not have made it to the IPL finals,but that hasn’t dampened the spirits of residents for the final encounter of the fourth edition of the tournament.

Pune may not have made it to the IPL finals,but that hasn’t dampened the spirits of residents for the final encounter of the fourth edition of the tournament. Restaurants and pubs have made special arrangements- big screens,cheerleaders,discounts- to woo fans.

At Arc Asia in ABC Farms,Kingfisher cheerleaders will accompany visitors. A DJ and live commentary on the match,which will be shown on a 15 X 15 ft screen,and IPL quizzes have been arranged. “We will get two cheerleaders for the day and will have a person delivering funny ball-by-ball commentary. Depending on how the match unfolds,we may bring in other offers,” said Imran Inamdar,manager of Arc Asia.

Koregaon Park’s Oakwood Premier Hotel will use the occasion to raise funds for India at 2047,an NGO that works for underprivileged children. “The invitees at the parties will be served complimentary starters. The match will be shown on a big screen in hotel lawns. We will put up a drop box at the venue in support of the NGO. There will be a DJ too,” said event coordinator Pranay.

The Time Out Sports Bar at Aundh’s Season’s Hotel will serve a special selection of cocktails,mocktails and starters as the final streams live on nine television screens at the lounge.

Another big screen has been arranged at Westin’s lounge bar,Mix Up 36. “The match will be showcased on three plasma TVs,apart from a big screen,” said restaurant manager Jayakrishnan. At Kalyani Nagar’s The Ship Restaurant,a big screen and three LCDs have been set up. “We will also have DJ Abhishek Mantri playing here,” said manager Ravi Kumar Das.

Cricketer Zaheer Khan’s Lullanagar restaurant,ZK’s,has been screening matches since the beguinning of the tournamnet .

“But the response this year has been just about average. In the last season,we had good crowds coming in during the quaterfinals and final. But this year,we were forced to drop the idea of a specialised menu. The World Cup hangover is still to recede,” said Kalpesh Kawade,executive chef at ZK’s.
