Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Research and Training Institute (BARTI),an autonomous institute under the department of Social Justice and Special Assistance has come out with two new programmes to promote participation of Scheduled Caste (SC) students in higher education.
Two programmes will start this year. One is the free Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) training of reserved category students. The second will be fellowships for SC students who wish to do PhD or MPhil, said DR Parihar,Director General,BARTI.
The UPSC training will be imparted by various universities and monitored by BARTI. Each batch will have 70 students. Training will be free of cost for all reserved category students.
We have signed MoUs with 13 universities. In the state,we are planning 17 centres. In Pune,there will be four centres at Azam campus,All India Institute of Local Self Governance,Karve Institute and BARTI Campus at Yerawada, said Rohan Joshi,Project
Director. Women will have 30 per cent reservation.
Although the training is free of cost for all students enrolling for the course,SC students will be given special benefits. A stipend of Rs 3,500 per month to these students and a budget of Rs 6,000 has been earmarked for every student for books and stationery, said Joshi.
The universities will be responsible for infrastructure and tutors,but BARTI will sponsor the project entirely. A corpus of Rs 35 lakh has been constituted per university.
