With Sufi compositions pitching to the rhythm of Rock music and Hindi lyrics dominating the vocals this band did not differ just for their tunes but also for the unique genre it presented. And bagging the winners trophy at the Raga High of Alcheringa Xtereme 2010 organised by IIT Guwahati the newly formed band RudraksH indeed has a big beginning. It was one of the 20 Hindi bands from Delhi,Kolkata,Guwahati,Darjeeling, and so on participating at the competition. The Sufi Rock band focuses on blending the eternal Sufi music and lyrics with modern Rock.

The band also plays covers of Kailasa,Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Indian Ocean who are their inspirations as well as their self compositions. Having performed at various inter collegiate events and been in the finals of Battle of the Bands the members have also been jamming in the city. Rudraksh has Ajay Tapale – Lead Vocals,Gaurav Bhosale – on Tabala,Percussion and Vocals,Ezra Sahu – on Bass and Vocals,Jobin Abraham – on Guitars and Vocals and Ashpak Sheikh – on Drums and Vocals. “Many of our compositions are based on our experiences and struggles in life, love for music as well as about some historical personalities that haven’t been noticed. Anjani Raahe was our first a few months back, which was based on our struggle for music,” adds Jobin.

Discussing the lyrics and practicing at Nowrosjee Wadia College,Ajay adds,“Although music happened to me by accident it was after listening to Kailash Kher live in the city that we decided to follow him and his music. The response has been very encouraging and even though not as a career our tunes have a long way to go.”

“The genre of our music is defined by the very refreshing voice of our lead vocalist Ajay. Sufi for us is an expression to communicate with the almighty as well as the people.

We wanted it to be with the modern times so an influence of Rock is added. We sang two of our compositions Tamanna and Anjani Rahein along with Rahat Fatejh Ali Khan’s Maan Ki Lagan for the finals,” says Jobin.
