The ongoing Argentina film festival at NFAI brings to town international award winning films from the country
Martin Santore,a widower re-discovers life through a love relationship with the young Lura Avellenda after overcoming all conventions and shattering prejudices against the difference in their ages in director Alfonso Rosas Prieogos- The True. In ElPolaquito,a street kid falls in love with a 16-year-old prostitute,and tries to rescue her from the cruel life with no future. The film is based on a true story,that took place in Argentina in the late 90s. The ongoing- Argentina film festival at the National Film Archives of India (NFAI) promises to unveil the celluloid of this south American country.
Organised by the Federation of Film Society of India the three-day festival will showcase an array of films such as- Pizza,Birra,Faso (Pizza Beer Cigarettes) by Adrian Caetano/Bruno Stagnaro,Nine Queens by Fabian Bielinsky,The Dreams of heroes by Sergio Renan and Camila by Maria Luisa Bemerg.
We have selected some of the best and award winning films from Argentina over the decade. Pizza,Birra,Faso for instance was the Oscar nominated film from Argentina. The initiative is a part of the quarterly festivals that we conduct all over the country. The festival showcases two films each day and they largely reflect the lifestyle of the country, says Satish Jakatkar,secretary,Aashay Film Club.
Pizza,Birra,Faso that will be screened today is about friends working for a taxi driver to rob his passengers. and to plan their own robberies. One of the friends- Cordoba,wants to get enough cash to be able to leave Argentina and go to Uruguay. He and his friends plan one last robbery,but things dont go as planned. The second film- Nine Queens is about the life changing experience that two friends undergo within 24 hours.
