A 45-year-old contractual conservancy staffer,on Friday, was allegedly assaulted with iron rod by three unidentified drunk goons on Fergusson College ground from Pandavnagar side after he refused to give them money.
Same evening two students were looted of their cash and valuables by these three persons at the same spot.
The incident took place when Rudrappa Koli of Pandavnagar who works with the conservancy staff at Fergusson College was on his way back home around 5.30 pm. Koli told Newsline,They stopped me near the college compound wall and had an iron rod,a chopper and a broken beer bottle in their hand and were drunk. They demanded money which I refused to give them. One of them then put his hand into my pocket and as I turned to stop him from doing that, one of them hit me with an iron rod on my head. They hit me around six times and fled.
Koli who was seriously injured was rushed to a hospital by some of the local residents who came there listening to Kolis screams. About one and half hour later, two students,Amol Dhaware (23) and his friend Tushar Khandwe (26),were on their way to meet a friend around 7 pm when three persons with the same description, holding iron road, chopper and beer bottle accosted them at he same spot. Both of them were robbed of their cell phones and cash totaling to Rs 6500.
The two then registered a complaint with Deccan police station. I did not want to register a complaint as we suspect the three to be from Pandavnagar area. But after police insisted,I registered a complaint. Kolis sisters said,Many local goons have made our life hell. It is very unsafe to go out at any point of time.
S P Patil, inspector (crime) with Deccan police station said,Both the incidents have taken place at same spot. We are yet to identify the suspects. In a similar incident around six months ago,a woman was looted of her purse. We will soon identify the suspects. Sources at Pandavnagar chowky said,We suspect the three to be some goons from slums who are on our records.
