Parikramaa,the festival dedicated to Indian classical dance enthralled audiences with a wide variety of dance forms
Living up to the expectations from dance enthusiasts,Parikramaa,the two- day festival dedicated to Indian classical dance enthralled the audience with a memorable portrayal of various elements of dance such as Sur,Taal,Laya and Abhinaya. A grand display of dance forms such as Kuchipudi,Kathakali,Bharatnatyam and so on,the festival that took place at Yashwantrao Chavan auditorium and Bal Gandharva Rang Mandir featured veteran artists such as- Leela Samson,Anuradha Jonnalagadda,Kalamandalam Balasubramanian,Vaibhav Arekar along with Sucheta Chapekar,organiser of the event.
There are different forms of dance like Kathak,Bharatnatyam,Kuchipudi,and Oddissi. Though they seems to be different they are beautiful flowers with variant aromas. The beauty of this form lies in a great combination of Sur,Taal and Laya. This form is packed with enormous hastamudras,and mukhabhinayas which adds the flavour to its originality,says Chapekar,founder of Kalavardhini Charitable Trust,the organisers of the show.
Day two witnessed symposium by expert speakers on contemporary issues related to classical dance. It began with a grand inauguration by Rajlakshmi Bhosle,mayor of Pune and renowned Bharatnatyam exponent Padmashri Leela Samson. Day one started with Arghyam,a group performance by the disciples of Chapekar Alka Lajmi and Neelima Kadhe performed Bhartanatyam followed by Dhanashri Apte presenting Nrityaganga,Chapekars synthesis of Bharatnatyam and Hindustani Classical music.
Dance enthusiasts were enthralled by beautiful performances by veteran dancers on the evening of November 29. The evening began with the Prarthana performed by disciples of Chapekar. Geeta Madhuri started her Kuchipudi performance with Gajavandana,a prayer dedicated to lord Ganesha in raga Hansavardhini. The performance was full of Mudras,meaning expressions and marvelous Mukhabhinaya,meaning facial acts. Madhuri was also appreciated for her dance on a brass plate. She concluded with Tarangam,a dance performance based on a story by saint Narayan Tirth.
The next awaited performance was by veteran danseuse Leena Samson who mesmerised the audience with her performances such as – Shankarashri in raga Hansanandi along with portrayal of conflict between Shiva and Parvati- Ardhanari Nateshwara. Her fine Mudras and facial expressions made the performance a memorable experience. The day concluded with Nrityaganga by Chapekar and kathakali by kerala kalamandal group.
