Pune is all set to host the Army Day Parade, a key event in the country’s military calendar. The main parade, scheduled for Wednesday morning , is poised to showcase the evolving capabilities of the Army while highlighting inclusivity, technological innovation, and a deep connection with the nation’s citizens. This year’s parade, which will be held at the Bombay Engineer Group Centre, Khadki, promises to be a spectacle of firsts.
Here is the exact sequence of the prestigious parade, what the marching line-up will look like, what the flypasts will be, and how you can watch the parade online.
The initial sequence
Like most key military parades of India, the Army Day Parade too is known for its minute precision. On Wednesday morning, at 7.52 am the marching contingents of the parade will line up at the ground as the Parade Adjutant will bring them here. The Parade Adjutant will then give a report to the Second-in-Command of the parade, Brigadier Paramjit Singh Jyoti, Commandant of the Bombay Engineer Group (BEG) and Centre. Subsequently the Parade Commander — Major General Vij, who is currently the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Pune headquartered Dakshin Maharashtra and Goa Sub Area — will come on the ground.
At this point the parade will receive and salute two more military dignitaries, Lieutenant General Pawan Chadha, General Officer Commanding, Maharashtra Gujarat and Goa Area and Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Command.
While this is happening, Chief of the Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi will lay a wreath and pay tributes at 8.20 am at the National War Memorial of the Southern Command. He is set to reach the BEG Parade Ground at 8.36 am. The parade line-up will salute the Army Chief and the Parade Commander will give a report of the parade line-up. It is at this point that the parade will witness the flypast of the three Su-30 MKIs of the Indian Air Force.
Further into the parade, the Army Chief will review the parade for which he will move on a ceremonial vehicle along with the Parade Commander and will receive the salute from each marching contingent. The Chief will then take a position on the dais and present the awards including Sena Medal (Gallantry) and unit citations from individuals and units from all commands of the Army. This will be followed by the Chief’s Army Day address. This will be followed by the marching of the parade contingents. This will be marked by a flypast of the helicopters and a shower of flower petals on the parade and audience.
In a first first in an Army Day Parade line up, Women Agniveer Contingent from the Corps of Military Police will be among the marching contingents. Other contingents will be from the Army Service Corps Horse Contingent, Maratha Light Infantry Regimental Centre of Belgaum, Artillery Centre of Nashik, Army Ordnance Regimental Centre of Secunderabad, Mechanised Infantry Regimental Centre of Ahilya Nagar, Madras Regimental Centre of Wellington, and the Bombay Engineer Group Centre, Khadki and the last contingent will be of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) Girls Contingent from Maharashtra.
This too is the first occasion when NCC girl cadets will be part of the Army Day Parade line up. This will be followed by a march past of the cutting weapons and equipment and spotlight tableaux. The parade will conclude with a contingent of the Robotic Mules, the cutting-edge Quadrupedal Unmanned Ground Vehicle (Q-UGV), recently inducted into the Army, showcasing the futuristic military technology in action.
