The culmination of the 100th year celebrations of the Pune Vidyarthi Gruha (PVG) saw an enthusiastic alumnus who came on a stretcher to pay his gratitude to his alma mater.

Having suffered two paralytic strokes and being bedridden for the last three years did not stop him from coming to the function at the Muktangan school at Sahakar nagar.

Reaching the venue in an ambulance,82-year-old Sadanand Gajanan Chattre caught the attention of President Pratibha Patil who after the function met Chattre and greeted him with red roses. “Your determination to be a part of the celebrations is admirable and you have only set an example for the rest of the alumini,” said the president.

She said that his enthusiasm was good and it was nice that the family got him for the function.

“He couldn’t sleep for the last three nights because he was coming to attend the function,” said his wife.

One of the member of early batches of PVG,he has been collecting money and donating to PVG,said his daughter Sanjivani who is on the advisory body at the Pune University.

While Chattre was only able to say that he was happy to meet the president,Sanjivani said that his gritty nature had him having the desire to be physically present at the President’s function.
