AFMC hosts tri-services inter-academy debate and quiz competition

The event brought together teams from the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala, Air Force Academy, Dundigal, College of Military Engineering, Pune, Military College of Telecommunication Engineering, Mhow, and the AFMC.

While the rapid-fire quiz round showcased the quick thinking of top cadets from six premier military academies, it was the lively debate on the topic, “The New Global Order: Axis of Upheaval Is Here to Stay”, that kept the audience engaged with compelling arguments and thought-provoking insights.

Over the course of the last two days (Monday and Tuesday), cadets from six top military academies in the country came together to participate in the Tri-Services Inter-Academy Debate and Quiz Competition ‘Sameeksha Jigyasa 2025’ at Pune’s Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC).

The event brought together teams from the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala, Air Force Academy, Dundigal, College of Military Engineering, Pune, Military College of Telecommunication Engineering, Mhow, and the AFMC.

The event showcased not only their knowledge and eloquence but also the esprit de corps that defines the armed forces.

Lieutenant General A K Ramesh, Commandant, College of Military Engineering, Pune, who was the chief guest on the occasion, emphasised that clarity of thought, intellectual resilience, and moral conviction are the key attributes of a good soldier and congratulated the participants and their mentors for their exemplary participation.

On the concluding day on Tuesday, the event witnessed invigorating debates under Sameeksha, where cadets dealt with issues of contemporary geopolitical and strategic importance, displaying sharp analysis and articulation.

The inter-academy quiz competition Jigyasa themed on the Second World War challenged participants with intricate rounds of strategy, history, and tactical acumen, bringing alive the lessons of the past for the leaders of tomorrow. The Quizmaster was Col Sameer Gupta (Retd), an eminent onco-surgeon and a widely acclaimed academician while the panel of judges included Lt Gen Noble Thamburaj (Retd), Maj Gen Ramesh Kaushik (Retd) and Col R S Bhatia (Retd). Lt Gen Pankaj P Rao, Director and Commandant, AFMC, and Maj Gen Atul Seth, Dean and Deputy Commandant, AFMC, were also present on the occasion.

The Team AFMC, Pune (Medical Cadet Ayush Kumar Singh and Med Cdt Sambhav Singh) emerged as champions of the debate competition, while the Air Force Academy, Dundigal (Flt Cdt Sameeksha Joshi and Flt Cdt Dev Rohil) secured the second position.

Med Cdt Sambhav Singh from AFMC was adjudged the best speaker and Flt Cdt Samiksha Joshi as the 2nd Best speaker.

In the Quiz segment, Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala (MID Ayush Bhoria and Cadet Ayush Shetty) claimed top honors, with Team AFMC, Pune (Med Cdt Priyanshu Mahar and Med Cdt Uday Tej Singh) finishing as runners-up.

On the occasion the legacy issue of the newsletter Axon was released. This is a compendium of the rich history of the entire Debating, Quizzing and History Society of AFMC from the time of its origins five decades ago till the present time.

Col Jafar Husain, officer-in-charge of the Debate, Quiz and History Society said that while tracing the details of the past secretaries and officer-in-charge they realised the rich legacy that they had inherited from their seniors. As Col Husain writes in the newsletter, “I feel lucky and blessed that a place like AFMC exists which promotes a culture of free thinking, dialogue and activities that build character and makes its students better human beings.”
