The Shivajinagar police investigating the rape of a four-year-old girl near PMC headquarters on October 23 have claimed that the suspect,a 40-year-old man who works at a restaurant, had also raped the victim’s mother and attempted to rape her elder sister,a few months ago.

Investigating officer Seema Mehendale,Police Inspector (crime) of Shivajinagar police station, claimed that Ranjeet Biswas raped the victim’s mother about a month ago and had also attempted to rape her 14-year-old sister,a few months ago,but he was stopped by her brother.

“The suspect and victim’s mother are acquaintances and were in a relationship till five months ago, when they lived together. However, the woman severed her ties with Biswas and shifted to another place with her children. About a month ago,Biswas persuaded her to move to his place. However, when she refused,Biswas raped her,” a police official said.

The victim’s elder sister told the police that when her mother and Biswas lived together,on one occasion, the latter had dragged her behind a shanty and tried to rape her. But,her brother averted the incident, the police said.

“On October 22,the four-year-old girl was sleeping on the footpath with her mother, but was found missing in the morning. Later, she was found unconscious in the cement pipe on the river bed. When the family approached the police,a medical examination was conducted on her at Sassoon hospital, which confirmed that she was raped,” a police official said.
