89 per cent industrial workforce local: state

State Industry Minister Rajendra Darda has claimed that 89 per cent of locals have got priority in jobs in the state,as per a survey done by the government.

Replying to a question in the Legislative Council,Darda said,“A survey conducted in small,medium and large scale industries showed that 89 per cent of the local people have got jobs.” He said a person domiciled for 15 years in the state and who knows Marathi is a local.

The government,in the meantime,is yet to accept the report submitted by a study group formed under the chairmanship of an additional chief secretary suggesting measures to ensure unemployed locals are given jobs. “The report has been sent to various departments for suggestions and objections. The government is yet to take a decision on accepting the report.”

Darda,however,enlisted the findings of the group that suggest that priority is given to locals in jobs of security guards in housing societies and banks,making it mandatory to declare vacant posts or face increased fine,enforce need of knowledge of Marathi among employees,education system be employment-oriented,80 per cent recruitment of locals is necessary,updating the website of Employment and Self-Employment Department and strengthening the department.

The minister said 28.72 lakh youths had registered themselves with the Employment Exchange and the government has already sent the list to companies having over one lakh posts vacant. “The companies can recruit candidates through the exchange or directly by giving advertisements in papers,” he said.
