They had lost their friends in the German Bakery blast two years ago. But not ones to give up hope,23-year-old Ashutosh Singh and Sanchit Gupta, law students at Symbiosis College and several others had made innumerable trips from Inlaks Budhrani and Jehangir hospitals, collected bottles of blood and rushed to the aid of their injured friends.
Two years later, both Ashutosh and Sanchit, who would have been law graduates, are now deeply mourned by their family, friends and their college mates.
Life has come to a standstill for the parents of Ashutosh and Sanchit, who died in a collision with an unidentified heavy vehicle near the old Sangam bridge at Mangalwar Peth in the early hours of February 3.
I still cannot believe that my friends are no more, said Avinav Krishna, who was their classmate in the fifth and final year of law at Symbiosis.
Ashutosh and Sanchit had gone for dinner to Camp and were on their way home in Aundh when the accident took place, he said.
Avinav, who is helping Sanchits parents gather his belongings and important documents, said Ashutoshs close friend had taken his body to Allahabad via Delhi on a flight.
Even as the friends of Ashutosh and Sanchit gathered at the condolence meeting organised recently, the news of their deaths was yet to sink in for many.
In the few years that we have known Ashutosh,he was always friendly and instrumental in getting people together. Singh, along with Sanchit and others friends, worked non-stop after the German Bakery blast, arranging for blood and looking after his friends parents, said Avinav.
In fact,Ashutosh was the fourth roommate of the three friends who were injured in the blast. All four Ashutosh,Rishabh Agarwal,Rajiv Agarwala and Abhishek Saxena stayed together.
Dr Vidya Yeravdekar, principal director for Symbiosis Society, was shocked when she heard the news of their death.
Both Ashutosh and Sanchit were actively involved in various activities of the college. They were in the disciplinary committee for this years festival, Yeravadekar said.
Just think of their families. Ashutosh was the only child, while Sanchit who hailed from Agra, has a younger sister still in school, said Yeravadekar.
