2 months on,probe panels yet to submit their reports

While the one member committee of Divisional Commissioner Prabhakar Deshmukh declared by Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan on the day of incident is expected to take 15 more days to submit its report, another 13-member technical committee constituted by MSRTC will take around a month.

Two months have passed since the “mentally unstable” state transport driver Santosh Mane mowed down eight people on city roads but neither of the two inquiry committees that were constituted to probe the circumstances that led to the incident have submitted their report.

While the one member committee of Divisional Commissioner Prabhakar Deshmukh declared by Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan on the day of incident is expected to take 15 more days to submit its report, another 13-member technical committee constituted by MSRTC will take around a month.

The Prabhakar Deskhmukh Committee was given the responsibility of looking into all aspects of the incident and filing a detailed report to the government.

“The report will at least take 15 more days. I have received the police report today. I am expecting another report from the MSRTC,” Deshmukh said.

Deshmukh said as part of the probe proceedings he had organised a public hearing about a week ago where survivors of the incidents, eyewitnesses, police personnel among others participated and put forth their account of the incident.

Meanwhile, the MSRTC technical committee comprising 13 members from MSRTC and outside that was appointed to look at the technical aspects and loopholes in the MSRTC’s system that led to the incident has recommended a few measures though it has not submitted its report yet.

“The committee is expected to submit its report in a month. But we have undertaken certain immediate medical and mechanical precautionary measures such as medical checkup of all the 36,000 drivers with the MSRTC,recruitment of counsellors and filling up of vacancies with the corporation,” said MSRTC spokesperson Mukund Dhus.
