The organs of a 19-year-old girl admitted to DPU Private Super Specialty Hospital in Pimpri helped save four lives.

Doctors said the girl was admitted to the hospital on November 8 this year with hypoxemic ischemic encephalopathy. On November 19, she was declared brain-dead. Upon counselling, her family decided to donate her organs.

With consent from her family, the heart, liver, two kidneys and a pair of lungs were donated. One kidney and liver were allotted to a 45-year-old woman and the organ transplant took place on November 20. The other kidney, heart and the pair of lungs were allotted to other hospitals.

Dr Bhagyashree P Patil, Pro-Chancellor of Dr DY Patil Vidyapeeth (deemed to be university), Pimpri, said, “Organ donations and transplants are honorable deeds, as they are the last resort in saving lives.”
