Investigations have revealed that the rape and murder of the 10-year-old girl at a bungalow in Narayan Peth was part of a plan hatched by the duo,Mohiniraj Kulkarni (79) and his maid Rekha Randive (28).
The girl was the daughter of Randive who worked as a maid at Kulkarnis residence. He had planned to take Randive to America with him. So,the duo hatched a plan to get rid off Randives daughter, the police said. The Vishrambaug police, who arrested the duo on Saturday, grew suspicious after Randive kept changing her statements.
Investigations have revealed that Randive and Kulkarni were in an illicit relationship. He wanted to take Randive to America where his sons are settled. But her daughter was proving an impediment. So,Kulkarni raped and killed Randives daughter. The duo had planned and killed the girl, police inspector Motichand Rathod of Vishrambaug police station said.
Randive first told the police that Kulkarni treated the victim as his granddaughter. But later retracted her statement saying that Kulkarni murdered her daughter and that Kulkarni and she were in an illicit relations for over one year, said the police.
Meanwhile, judicial magistrate (first class) P P Modi remanded Randive and Kulkarni to police custody till October 29. Public prosecutor Neelima Joshi argued that the duo should be remanded to police custody as the case is serious and involves the rape and murder of a minor. Medical reports have proved that the girl was first raped and then murdered. The court should consider the age of the victim instead of the 79-year-old accused,Joshi said.
Joshi said that Randive played an important role in the crime. She is also suspected to have destroyed the evidence.
