Chandrakant Patil Former Maharashtra BJP president Chandrakant Patil said on Tuesday that the recent incident of men carrying posters of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb during a procession in Ahmednagar Sunday was a “reaction” to the BJP’s “resolute stand” on various issues.
Patil, who was in Vadodara to participate in the celebrations to mark nine years of the NDA government, maintained that “such reactions would not be tolerated”.
Speaking to mediapersons, Patil said, “If we stay resolute on our decisions, there will be reactions… This (Ahmednagar) incident was also a reaction… Our (Maharashtra) Deputy CM (Devendra Fadnavis), who is also the Home Minister, has issued stern warning.”
“Last week, our CM (Eknath Shinde) and deputy CM visited the memorial dedicated to Ahilyabai on her birth anniversary… There they declared that Ahmednagar will now be called Ahilyanagar. This is a reaction to that,” he added.
