The Central University of South Bihar (CUSB), Gaya, has become the first university in the state to receive A++ grade, the highest on its grading scale, from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). CUSB had received an ‘A’ rating from the national body during the first phase of evaluation and certification in 2017.

CUSB Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kameshwar Nath, attributed the University’s achievement to its teachers, students, staff, and officers. “It is a rare example of collective commitment our entire team. At the same time, now we have a bigger responsibility of matching up to the high standards we have set…the university will not only be able to revive the old glory of Nalanda and Vikramshila but will also be able to establish itself in global rankings”, said the VC.

NAAC is an autonomous body within the University Grants Commission (UGC) which assesses and accredits higher education institutions on the basis of the standards of its curriculum, faculty, infrastructure, research, among other parameters through a multi-tiered process. NAAC grades higher education institutions from highest (A++) to lowest (C) using this process.

South Bihar, Gaya, was created under the Central Universities Act, 2009, which was passed by the Indian Parliament. The institution was started from rented houses in Patna in 2012, and now encompasses 11 academic schools and 25 academic departments, with approximately 180 teachers providing world-class education-training to around 3000 students across the country and abroad.
