The Bihar Police arrested seven persons, including two women, in connection with the murder of Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Anirudh Kumar, who was posted at Darauda police station in Siwan district. Kumar was found dead on the intervening night of October 29 and 30.

Kundan Krishnan, Additional Director General (ADG) of Bihar Police Headquarters and Operations, said that the investigation revealed that the murder was the outcome of a personal dispute.

“One of the accused, Imran Ansari, a resident of Nepalgunj in Nepal, had suspected his wife, who worked as a dancer in a local troupe, of being in contact with the ASI. This led to an argument between the ASI, Imran Ansari, and his associate Rahul Kumar during Diwali,” the officer said.

Subsequently, Imran Ansari and Rahul Kumar, along with other accomplices, allegedly conspired to kill Anirudh Kumar. “They lured ASI Kumar to attend a dance programme and took him to a field in Sirsaon village under Darauda police station, where he was killed with a sharp-edged weapon,” ADG Krishnan said. The ASI was found with his throat slit.

Following the registration of a case at Darauda Police Station under Sections 103(1), 238, 61(2) and 3(5) of the BNS along Section 3(2)(1) of the SC/ST Act, a joint operation was conducted by the Special Task Force (STF) and the Siwan district police units.

Acting on technical evidence and human intelligence, the investing team arrested two women and five men. They included two Nepal citizens, Imran Ansari and Sameer Idrishi; and three Siwan locals — Rahul Kumar Yadav, Ranjan Kumar Srivastava and Sandeep Singh.

Police said all of them have confessed to their involvement in the crime, and the deceased officer’s mobile phone, gold chain, ring, and silver bracelet have been recovered from the possession of the accused.
