The V P police on Thursday arrested a 24-year-old man for stealing cash and valuables worth Rs 30.23 lakh from his employer’s office in Girgaum on June 25. The accused identified as Budhan Paswas worked as a chef for a jewellery designer. Police are still on the lookout for Paswan’s accomplice.
“Paswan worked as a chef for more than eight years for the complainant and he knew where the keys are kept. Paswan’s accomplice has been identified as Lalit Chaupal,” senior police inspector Rajendra Chavan said. Police said that they were tipped-off about Paswan’s possible involvement as there were some discrepancies in his statement. “Once the theft was brought to our notice,we began taking down the statements of the witnesses. There were some discrepancies in Paswan’s statements. We began questioning him and he confessed that he had stolen the valuables,” Chavan said.
He said,Paswan told officers that both he and Chaupal wanted to make quick money. “Both of them are residents of Bihar. Chaupal had come to the city for a job a few months ago and stayed with Paswan. It was then that they hatched the plan. Efforts to trace Chaupal are on and we will nab him soon.” Paswan was produced in a court on Thursday and has been remanded in police custody till June 30.
