Yasir Abidi hit prime form as he recorded a fine hat-trick to power Celtic 70-70 FC to a close 3-2 win against Bandra Packers in a fast paced Premier Division encounter

Yasir Abidi hit prime form as he recorded a fine hat-trick to power Celtic 70-70 FC to a close 3-2 win against Bandra Packers in a fast paced Premier Division encounter of the 10th edition of the Bandra West Football League 2013,played at the Dr. Norman Lewis Supari Talao Municipal Grounds Bandra (West).

Yasir struck in the fourth minute of play to put Celtic ahead,but their joy was short-lived as Bandra Packers attacked with vigour to score two beautiful goals by Ranzie Kallicharan and Danish Qureshi to forge ahead. The nippy striker,Yasir was on target again just before the half time to put his team on level terms.

Yasir showed his scoring skills and from fast-paced counter he netted the all-important winning goal. He weaved his way past a host of rival defenders to bulge the net with a crisp drive in the dying minutes of the game.

Rohit Varma once again starred for his side Young XI scoring four goals including a hat trick to enable his side emerge easy winner 5-1 in the Division I league over Vallankini Boys.

Division-I: Young XI 5(Rohit Varma 4,Randell Fernandes) bt Vellankini Boys 1(Dennis Francis); Sea View SC 2 (Kenrick Ferns 2) drew with Kantwadi Strikers 2 (Shaizad Ali,Amir Shandiwan); Das Academy 2 (Royston Lobo,Yadnan Yeligar) bt Skylarks FC 9; Athletico Titans 4 (Ryland D’Monte 2,Tausif Manjothi,Ali Menon) bt Carmelites ‘B’.

St. Paul’s emerge champions

St. Paul’s,Dadar got the better of Kalina Village Boy’s by a narrow 3-2 margin in the finals of the Olympia 7-a-side Monsoon Soccer Tournament,organised by the Olympia Sports & Events,and played at the Aarey Bhasker Sports and Welfare Centre,Gokuldham,Goregaon (East).

In a pulsating final,the Dadar outfit got their goals through,Nixon Rodrigues,Merwin Stephens and Clint Fernandes,while the Kalina side scored through Sheldon Sharma and Shailesh Karkera.

The champions returned home with the winners’ trophy and a cash award of Rs 15,000,while the runners-up received a cash purse of Rs 10,000.
