Over 180 people are on the tracks, using high-capacity pumps and advanced monitoring to keep operations normal,” said Vineet Abhishek, Western Railway CPRO.

The Central Railway faced major disruption on Tuesday as heavy rain and waterlogging led to the suspension of all Main Line train services between the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) and Thane. Fast trains on the Main Line between Kurla and Sion were halted at around 11.25 am, and slow services were stopped as a precaution starting around 11.45 am. On the Harbour Line, train movement between the CSMT and Chunabhatti was suspended from approximately 11.20 am because of flooding at the Chunabhatti station.

The Central Railway has also announced cancellations of 27 trains scheduled to commence journeys between August 19 and 21. As many as 13 trains each, which were expected to start journeys on August 19 and 20  have been cancelled, while one train scheduled for August 21 has been cancelled.

Additionally, seven trains have been short terminated at stations including Pune, Panvel, Nashik Road, and Igatpuri.

The Central Railway has set up help desks at prominent stations, including the CSMT, Thane, Kalyan, Panvel, Vadala, Kurla, Vashi, and Dadar, to assist passengers. Five express trains scheduled to depart from the CSMT were delayed. The express train to Dhule was rescheduled from 12 pm to 1.30 pm, the express train to Hazrat Nizamuddin from 12.10 pm to 2.15 pm, the Chennai-bound express from 12.45 pm to 2.45 pm, the Nanded express from 1.10 pm to 2.30 pm, and the express to Jabalpur from 1.30 pm to 3 pm.

Commuters at key central stations experienced long delays and crowding, relying on frequent updates and assistance from help desks as the suspension continued.

The Central Railway stated that all Main Line services between the CSMT and Thane will remain suspended until further notice, but shuttle trains are running between Thane, Karjat, Khopoli, and Kasara to offer limited travel options for those heading beyond the flood-affected areas. On the Harbour Line, trains between Kurla Junction (CLA) and CSMT remain stopped.

“Heavy downpour is continuing in Mumbai. Local train services are running only between Panvel and Vashi on the Harbour Line, Thane and Vashi on Trans Harbour, and Thane, Kalyan, Kasara, and Karjat on the Main Line. Water is eleven inches above rail level at Sion-Kurla and nineteen inches at Kurla-Chunabhatti. Crowd at stations are low as offices, schools, and colleges are closed,” said P D Patil, Public Relations Officer, Central Railway, in a statement.

As many as 100 trains were cancelled on Western Railway due to waterlogging between Nalasopara and Vasai Road, including Mumbai Central–Valsad fast passenger and Vapi–Mumbai Central passenger.

The services were back to normal by the evening with only 10-15 minutes delay on regular services.
