As they expect a crowd of 40,000 spectators to throng the DY Patil Stadium for the ICC Women’s World Cup final match between India and South Africa on Sunday, the Navi Mumbai police have deployed around 1,000 personnel to manage traffic as well as to avoid any law and order problem.

The service roads near the stadium are closed for vehicles, and the police advise people to use public transport like BEST and NMMT buses and plan their journeys early to avoid delays caused by potential traffic congestion. One deputy commissioner of police, three assistant commissioners of police, 90 other police officers, and 450 constables will be on the road near the stadium, said an officer.

Milind Bharambe, Commissioner of Police, Navi Mumbai, has made extensive traffic planning to keep the traffic on the Sion-Panvel highway unhindered. Strict security measures have been imposed near the stadium area from 10 am on Sunday, the police said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Tirupati Kakade said, “Assistant commissioners of police, along with 20 inspectors and 144 police constables, 60 wardens, are being deployed on the main roads of the stadium and in the surrounding area. One hydra crane is kept near the stadium for emergencies, while four vans for car towing and two towing vans for two-wheelers are deployed for illegal parking”.
Apart from crowd management, the system will focus on maintaining smooth traffic flow near the stadium area. Parking and commercial cab pick-up and drop facilities have been arranged at several places near the stadium at Tangel Grounds, Bhimashankar Grounds, NMMC stack parking, Yashwantrao Chavan ground, Ramleela Ground, Acharya Shri Tulsi Udyan, and the Sunil Gavaskar ground in Belapur.

The nearest cab pickup and drop point is at Bhimashankar ground, which is approximately 1 km from gate numbers 2, 3, 4, and 5, said Kakade.

“We have been requesting people to use public transport services as much as possible since the capacity of the parking lot is limited. The police have also warned that action will be taken against the vehicles if parked in unauthorised places,” added Kakade.
