A 28-year-old woman committed suicide by jumping off the Bhayander creek along with her five-year-old son on Monday afternoon.
According to the Bhayander police, the woman has been identified as Yashodha Rana, a resident of Ramdev Park in Mira Road.
Passersby saw the woman’s body floating near the railing of the creek around 4 pm. They called local fishermen, who recovered her as well as her son Vikas’s body.
Locals also informed the police, who later established the identity of the woman and reached her house, where they met her husband Hausia (30).
They also found a suicide note written in Hindi in her bedroom.
“The note stated she was committing suicide as she was harassed by her former employer, who was threatening her,” said Chandrakant Joshi, police inspector, Bhayander police station.
The police said Rana had been working at a mobile shop owned by a man named Yusuf Valsania for the last five months. “Rana had given Valsania her gold chain as he needed money. However, when she asked for her money back, Valsania started threatening her, saying he would defame her by saying they had an affair,” Joshi said.
Rana also stated in her suicide note that her family and husband were not responsible for her step.
“We are registering a case of abetment to suicide against Valsania as well as a murder case against Rana for killing her son,” said Joshi.
