Will ensure strict implementation of compulsory Marathi in all schools: Dada Bhuse
The move addresses widespread complaints of non-compliance, especially by non-state board schools, due to a lack of strict monitoring from the government's end.

School Education Minister Dada Bhuse on Tuesday announced the strict implementation of the regulation mandating Marathi as a compulsory language in schools affiliated with all boards, including ICSE and CBSE.
“Our department will ensure that it is implemented strictly. Now Marathi is also granted the status of Classical language and no school, irrespective of different types of boards and management will have to follow through in adhering to the regulation of learning Marathi as compulsory subject,” Bhuse said, reaffirming the state’s mandate.
The move addresses widespread complaints of non-compliance, especially by non-state board schools, due to a lack of strict monitoring from the government’s end.
Bhuse also promised a detailed roadmap soon, focusing on enhancing the quality of education across Maharashtra.
Pertinently, several officials have also pointed out that the regulation is conveniently ignored by many non-state board schools as there is no strict monitoring from the government on whether or not this is followed.
Initially, this decision of making Marathi a compulsory subject was taken in 2021. It was soon declared as a graded subject, which may not be mandatory for the students to pass. Last year, this was changed and Marathi was again made compulsory.
