Weighing it with diamonds

Given how diamonds can make most women go weak, can too many at a time be a turn-off?

Given how diamonds can make most women go weak in the knees, can too many at a time be a turn-off? That’s what comes to mind when one sets eyes on the much-hyped all-diamond bustier boasting of,hold-your-breath,over 500 carats of fine Belgian diamonds set in 18 karat gold, designed by jewellery retail chain,Orra. It was even tad embarrassing to stare continuously at model Sonia Dhiman, who showcased the bustier at a Chandigarh store. It oddly reminded us of something tacky Mallika Sherawat wore to a New Year’s bash which had the moralists up in protest. “This is not something you’ve seen before,” the brand’s regional sales manager,Sandeep Handa asserted, mentioning how this bustier has been on a tour of cities, having just arrived from Jalandhar.

“The special showcase has been timed with our annual anniversary sale offering special deals,” he added. Priced at a whopping Rs 6 crore (approximately),the bustier with a hidden lining is held up with a floral-design choker necklace and strings at the back. “It’s comfortable and not as heavy,” said the model. Given the response it generated in the last outing,it’s too soon to write off buyers. “Punjab is a good market for us and if someone is looking at buying it,we aren’t going to refuse,” said Handa, who even pointed out that the auspicious day of jewellery shopping — Akshaya Tritya — was around the corner on May 6. Even if you like over-the-top bling and attention to your bust,it’s wiser to invest in a pair of diamond chandeliers instead.
