Set in a dry village located in the Rann of Kutch and amid dying flamingoes who a foreigner wishes to save, Jal is the story of a young diviner who has the ability to find water in the desert. Talking about the film, Girish Malik, who is debuting as director, said it is neither an art film nor a commercial film. “It stands somewhere in between. The film has emotions, comedy, drama and passionate romance,” he said. Purab Kohli, who has done his schooling in Pune, said Jal is the result of two years of focused hardwork.
“The film has changed my perspective towards cinema. I have got many reviews till date, at various award functions and events but the ultimate review is the audience here. It is they who will decide if they accept the film or not,” said Kohli.
Apart from the visit to Kutch, Kohli participated in workshops conducted by Nain Rana in Mumbai two months before the schedule. Talking about the audience’s reaction to the trailer, Kohli shared that many of them do not recognise his new look. The film has been showcased at Busan International Film Festival and Indian Panorama section at IFFI Goa.
