Water supply to be hit in South Mumbai areas today

Parts of South Mumbai will face an 18-hour water cut from Monday morning to early morning on Tuesday owing to leakage on a Tansa water main pipeline near Nana Chowk.

Parts of South Mumbai will face an 18-hour water cut from Monday morning to early morning on Tuesday owing to leakage on a Tansa water main pipeline near Nana Chowk. The Tardeo supply zone comprising Haji Ali,Tulsiwadi,Sane Guruji Marg,Tardeo Road and Sleater Road and the adjoining supply zone of Nair Hospital,Kasturba Hospital,Mahalaxmi Yard of Western Railway,Mahalaxmi Railway Station,Mumbai Central Railway Station and Grant Road Railway Station will not receive water between 10 am on Monday and 4 am on Tuesday. An official from the hydraulic engineering department said the BMC would undertake complete repair of the leakage in this time period.

“To arrest leakage on Tansa West water main at Sleater Road Junction in Nana Chowk opposite Hotel Shri Krishna Palace,it is required to take up repair work urgently. The pipeline is old and fragile and the leakage heavy,” said the official.

The pipeline, measuring 1,450 mm in diameter,is part of the twin Tansa mains (Tansa east and Tansa west) that were laid down in the 1920s. In 2008,the civic body undertook the project of replacing the 80-km network of Tansa pipelines from the Tansa lake in Shahapur district to the city. Under the project, the two parallel running mild steel pipelines will be replaced with a single RCC (reinforced cement concrete) pipeline.
