It was at the popular Saturday Night Bazaar at Arpora in Goa that photographer Rohit Chawla came across the subject of his next photo series. The effortless and quirky fashion sense of the foreigners who flocked the market, left him in awe and it was then that Chawla began work on his latest series titled Goa Style last year. The result has been a collection of more than 40 photographs, which are now being exhibited at the Religare Art Gallery in Delhi, till March 20. They are global nomads who come from all over the world and they spend a good part of the year in Goa. According to me,what they wear and the way they style it is real fashion, says Chawla. Tattooed and pierced bodies, feather accessories, chunky jewellery,boho-chic ensembles the Saturday Night Bazaar revellers stand out for their edgy style. And it is this aspect that Chawla has captured in his frames. I have a house in Goa and every time I had to shoot them,I would invite them home and ask them to come as themselves not change a thing in their wardrobe. There is a picture of a family with a mother, father and child on a bike and its like poetry, he adds. This exhibition is a continuation of his obsession with nomads after Wanderlust that was shot in Kutch. The photographer will soon be off to Bolivia to shoot some more nomads.
