Wall collapse in Cuffe Parade kills one

The deceased Mohamed Akbar (38) and the injured Gangadhar Akla were both contractual labourers.  According to civic officials, both Akbar and Akla were working on a pipeline repair project, when the incident happened.

One person died and another was injured after a compound wall of an open plot collapsed in south Mumbai. The incident was reported around 2.50 pm on Sunday at Miyan Chawl, Cuffe Parade.

The deceased Mohamed Akbar (38) and the injured Gangadhar Akla were both contractual labourers.  According to civic officials, both Akbar and Akla were working on a pipeline repair project, when the incident happened. “The compound wall collapsed on them, soon after which they were rushed to INHS Asvini Hospital. Akbar was declared dead, but Akla sustained minor injuries and has been discharged from hospital,” said an official.

BMC has deployed JCB cranes to remove the debris of the wall, and presently four vehicles are still trapped underneath the debris.
